10 months – 10 rooms – $10 grand

Remember that old nursery rhyme…there was a crooked man and he had a crooked house? Well, about 21 years ago I bought that house – and I’ve been redecorating it ever since. This is our house.

It’s your typical one and a half story, first ring suburb home. We raised three kids here and it’s undergone a lot of changes since we moved the family in. Every room has been done (sometimes 3 or 4 times) over the years. But none of them turned out exactly the way I wanted. I either ran out of time, or money, or energy, or ideas. In any case, I moved on. Now, with the kids moved out, and the house almost paid for (well, if 8 years from now is almost!) I going to finish, change, redo, gut and complete every room. All ten of them.

I’m using this blog to keep myself on track and hopefully on budget. I will also from time to time need help making decisions. Ben will tell you, after 20+ years of marriage, that I won’t take take your advice most of the time, but it does help me jump off the dock. I’m doing this mostly on my own, all though some things will require professional or spousal help. Yep, he is thrilled with this plan!

The first thing you need to know is that I don’t actually have $10,000. I will have to save it or earn it as I go. And since I’m out here on my own in the web and graphic design world the time line could be an issue. But I need a finish date to keep me moving. And the plan is nothing on the credit credit card. Except Home Depot, I mean come on! But it’s going to be interesting because I have a complete bathroom gut coming on the horizon.

The other thing you need to know is that this is not going to be a “rated g” blog. This is home improvement people. There will be swearing and very poor behavior. Ben and I are planning to do the bulk of the bathroom gut ourselves. It’s not going to be pretty. Long marriage, small space! I won’t be working or writing every day. And technically room one is done. (It took me longer to “redecorate” my web site then I planned) so I’ll have to backtrack some.

A friend suggested I do this so that she could follow along – plus she knows how I get and assumes there will have quite a few “Lucy you got some explaining to do” moments. Why not share them with EVERYONE! Hope you join me!
