Room ONE

September
The “Master” Bath.

Calling this a “master” bath is a bit misleading. Yes, it’s off our “big” bedroom, but like a Yugo – sure technically it’s car, but come on! When we bought this house from the “Cheapersons” this bath was a joke. Wood paneling and $1.99 vanity and carpet on the floor. We made some cosmetic changes, got rid of the carpet (side note: our icky neighbor at the time actually took that carpet to put in one of his rental apartments – I still have nightmares about that) and we lived with it like that for a long time. About 5 years ago, Ben and I finally torn it all out. We disagreed on which style to go with. I wanted more of a traditional claw foot, wainscoting kind of thing, while Ben wanted a “spa” like retreat. He actually may have said that. So we agreed, he could have his way in the upstairs bath and I could have mine in the main floor bath. So we did a nice travertine and viola! The mistakes I made were as follows. I never got the color right, it was too beige for me and the pedestal sink and Target priced side cabinet didn’t work and it pissed me off. So began room ONE.

I found the sink I wanted after two weeks of googling and shopping. The problem was where the plumbing was, the size of the space and the angle of the ceiling. Always a challenge in an expansion. I found the I wanted and got the best price on Ebay. The cabinet. Sigh. Took forever. Five trips to home depot. Little feet to level it so it was flush against the wall, and two extra holes (oops) drilled in the back. We broke the mirror, so I had to get a new one. A new shade (inside mount LOL) and rug. I thought Ben had broken the light fixture, which I still liked, but I managed to fix it. Oh, and caulk, while useful is not my friend. Here are the details…

Color: Dill Pickle ($14.00)
Sink: $695 – faucet included.
Bathrug: $24 (geeze!)
Shade: Custom size $39 (not bad, Shutters Shades and ? .com)
Total: $772.

Thats more than I thought. I could be in budget trouble already!

Arguments: One – I’ve been corrected. It was not an argument, it was a fit of temper. Not by or directed at me. And really, that’s all that matters.

Room ONE – Complete.
