October – I’m in trouble…

I got started on the bedroom in early October. I’ve been busy, so things have gone slowly, but I’ve taken down the horrible track lighting. Spackled and painted the ceiling (3 coats ugh) and gotten the new skylight shades in. I’ve gotten bogged down in the “Cheapersons” fixes that I have ignored for 20+ years. Mainly the opening to the plumbing and the poor way they joined the attic to the stairs. Today in a fit of temper I pulled down all the random camouflage (oddly placed and mismatched molding) around the stair well. I have just spent the last 2 hours mudding.

I hate mud. I don’t do it well, and I have a philosophical issue with any thing that has to be slathered on and then sanded until it’s almost gone, and the slathered again and so on and so one until it’s “perfect.” A standard that I am completely incapable of achieving. And the time drying and the MESS. Don’t even get me started on the fucking dust. EVERYWHERE! Hopefully though when I’m done, if I’m not insane – I will have a very nice 1.5 story wall to hang the yet to be painted painting on. I built a 50 x 60 inch frame and stretched the canvas over 3 months ago. It hangs in my office with a few colors of paint thrown on it and that’s it. I know that I can not move on to the next room until this painting is done and up. Pressure!

Working in this area also reminds me that I hate the railing that is there. And the fact that some of the spindles in the railing are upside down. Ben voiced his idea today that we pull them out along with the pony wall and put in a steel and plexiglass combo. It would be cool, for sure, but I had kind of resigned myself to the fact that this is a problem that the “new owners” will have to resolve. Not sure where we are going to with this. I may have to add an addendum to the bedroom that we can revisit this issue if we ever replace the carpet.

Needless to say, the bedroom will probably not be done in October. I still have to mud/dry/sand/mud/dry/sand/mud/dry/sand. Paint. Wallpaper. Paint trim. Clean the carpet and move the furniture around until I’m done. And oh, that canvas. Shit.
